The Consortium protects its Appellations with a series of projects aimed at the continuous improvement of the winegrowing sector.<\/span><\/span><\/h2>

It is an activator of possible synergies and collective strategies aimed at promoting environmental sustainability through the sharing of knowledge, the identification of possible accelerators of sustainability and the development of joint projects aimed at identifying tools, methods and initiatives to address today’s environmental challenges and anticipate future ones.<\/span><\/span><\/h4>

It organises training activities and interacts with the public authorities to exchange information on the needs of the wine sector and to seek synergies and support in the development of sustainability policies.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>

\u201cClonal Selection of Vernaccia di San Gimignano\u201d project<\/span><\/span><\/h3>

Il Progetto di selezione clonale della Vernaccia di San Gimignano prende avvio nel 1994 e si conclude nel 2003 con l\u2019approvazione e la registrazione di 8 nuovi cloni di Vernaccia di San Gimignano con caratteristiche decisamente migliorative sia sotto il profilo sanitario (cloni completamente virus-esenti), agronomico (riduzione del peso del grappolo, buccia pi\u00f9 spessa e quindi pi\u00f9 resistente) che enologico, rispetto al materiale standard e ai cloni selezionati agli inizi degli anni 70.
\n<\/span>Gli attori di questo progetto oltre al Consorzio sono il Dipartimento di orto-floricoltura dell\u2019Universit\u00e0 di Firenze, i Vivai Cooperativi Rauscedo e l\u2019Arsia. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>

\u201cSensory Identity of Vernaccia di San Gimignano\u201d project<\/span><\/span><\/h3>

Questo progetto inizia nel 2007 e si pone l\u2019obbiettivo di individuare i principali descrittori aromatici che costituiscono il bouquet della Vernaccia di San Gimignano e che la rendono unica e riconoscibile.
\n<\/span>Il progetto \u00e8 realizzato in collaborazione con il Dipartimento di viticoltura e enologia dell\u2019Universit\u00e0 di Firenze e il laboratorio di analisi ISVEA.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/section>

\u201cDNA Study of the Vernaccia di San Gimignano Grape Variety\u201d project<\/span><\/span><\/h3>

This project was launched in 2010 with the aim of identifying the genome of the Vernaccia di San Gimignano grape variety.
\nKnowledge of the DNA of the Vernaccia di San Gimignano grape allows producers to secure real guarantees on the nursery material purchased as the Vernaccia di San Gimignano variety for the planting of new vineyards, as well as the tracing of the Vernaccia grape throughout every stage of the production chain.
\nThe study highlights the substantial genetic uniformity of the vines in production today, attributable to the fact that they all have a common root, with no infiltration of other vines from other regions over the centuries: \u201cThe data obtained made it possible to clearly identify the genotypic profile of the Vernaccia cultivated in the municipality of San Gimignano, confirming that it coincides with the grape variety conserved in the official reference collections (CRA- VIT Conegliano Veneto).
\nThe project is realised in collaboration with Serg\u00e8 -Servizi di Genomica, a spin-off company of the University of Siena and the Provincial Administration of Siena.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>

\u201cVernaccia di San Gimignano Wine and Production of CO2\u201d project<\/span><\/span><\/h3>

This project was launched in 2014 to quantify the production of carbon dioxide released into the atmosphere (Carbon Footprint) by a bottle of Vernaccia di San Gimignano, starting from the vineyard to the distribution of the finished product, as well as the assessment of CO2 emissions during the disposal of packaging.
\nThe project was undertaken in collaboration with INDACO2, a start-up company of the University of Siena.
