Vernaccia di San Gimignano

Vernaccia di San Gimignano DOCG (vintage)

Vernaccia di San Gimignano reveals its rebellious character particularly in its organoleptic characteristics, which differ from the standard of ordinary white wines. This unique wine is distinguished by its decisive aroma and strong flavour.

Characteristics

Vernaccia di San Gimignano DOCG (vintage) is a still, dry white wine, fine, balanced and characterised by great harmony. It has a beautiful straw yellow colour with pale green to golden highlights, very clear and sometimes brilliant.

Bouquet

The nose is fine, delicate and elegant and contains pleasant floral and fruity notes, with hints of aromatic herbs, spices and other scents, especially those of the ancient sea.

Consultation of many sensory tasting datasheets reveals that the floral notes of Vernaccia di San Gimignano can be traced back to orange blossom, hawthorn, mimosa, broom, white and yellow roses, elderflowers, locust, magnolia, jasmine, lily of the valley, linden blossom, etc. Fruity descriptors range from almond to citrus fruits, and many varieties of apple, pear, white peach, apricot, yellow plum and tropical fruits.

Pairings

The palate displays freshness, medium body, savouriness, harmony, good persistence, elegance and gentleness.

Vintage Vernaccia di San Gimignano reaches its finest expression with aperitifs, buffets and at the table: it finds its natural place in combination with Mediterranean cuisine and particularly with the Tuscan cuisine of San Gimignano: from ribollita, to risotto with San Gimignano DOP saffron as well as rabbit cooked in Vernaccia.

It becomes exciting when paired with fish, white meats, mild cheeses, eggs and fried food, as well as with pasta dishes with white sauces made with courgettes, leeks, courgette flowers and even sauces with vegetables that are hard to pair with wine, such as asparagus.
