Vernaccia di San Gimignano DOCG Riserva

Vernaccia di San Gimignano Riserva is one of the very rare Italian wines which must be declared “Riserva” at the time of harvest.

The production regulations envisage a minimum ageing period of 11 months, at least three of which in the bottle before release for sale. The individual producer is left free to choose the type of wine containers to be used for the compulsory ageing process, and this allows the production of “Vernaccia di San Gimignano Riserva” wines that are a true expression of their “terroir”, recognisable, unique, identifiable and characteristic.

Characteristics

It is a still, dry white wine, savoury, full-bodied, persistent and with a great natural capacity for ageing. It has a beautiful, deep straw yellow colour, with highlights that become increasingly golden, clear and brilliant as time goes by.

Bouquet

Vernaccia di San Gimignano DOCG Riserva adds sensations of honey, white and black pepper, pronounced saltiness, moss, chalk and sugared almonds to the bouquet of Vernaccia aromas, accompanied by complex mineral notes of flint.

Pairings

The flavour is elegant, rich, savoury and persistent with a strong silky sensation that delights the palate.

It pairs wonderfully with prawns, lobster, langoustine and oysters, baked, grilled and foil-baked fish, fried seafood and freshwater fish, smoked salmon, raw fish and dishes accompanied by truffle.

It is unrivalled with medium-mature cheeses, enhancing their savouriness, and also with blue cheeses.

Fantastic and inimitable when paired with sushi.

Serving temperature of around 12-16°C, depending on personal taste.
