Producers
of Vernaccia di San Gimignano
are and will always be the watchful and attentive Guardians of the Landscape
Memory, history, culture and traditions are the operational substrate of today’s San Gimignano winegrowers, the modern guardians of the landscape in the broadest sense, those who play their part in achieving sustainability goals on a daily basis because:
- they have a close bond with their territory;
- they have specific knowledge;
- they do not relocate because the land cannot be relocated;
- they generate employment at all skill levels, from farm labourer to company manager;
- they produce their own grapes and make their own high quality wines with excellent export potential;
- they make use of the endogenous resources that the genetic diversity of the vine offers (ancient grape varieties, new varieties and different varietal genotypes), promoting them and conserving them;
- they play a fundamental role in landscape creation and conservation, helping to define and maintain territorial identity;
- they are open to technological innovation, which makes it possible to safeguard resources, avoid waste and ensure healthy production;
- they pay attention to climate change and work to make its effects less disastrous;
- they are part of the Consortium, which explores, studies, creates and implements collective initiatives with and for its members to improve and foster environmental sustainability.
